Major earthquake hits SW Pakistan
ISLAMABAD – A major 7.2 magnitude earthquake rocked a remote area of southwestern Pakistan early Wednesday, shaking many parts of the country and causing widespread panic, said meteorologists.
The quake was centered in Baluchistan province, the country's most sparsely populated area, said the United States Geological Service. It occured at a depth of some 50 miles (84 kilometers), it said.
Its exact epicenter was in a remote area some 200 miles (320 kilometers) southwest of the Baluchistan capital of Quetta, said chief Pakistani meteorologist Arif Mahmood.
Local TV reports said the quake was felt throughout several provinces. Many residents in the country's largest city, Karachi, ran out into the streets once the quake started, said the reports.
There were no immediate reports of damage, said Mahmood, the meteorologist. But quakes of this strength can cause widespread destruction.
Tremors lasting at least 20 seconds were also felt as far away as Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and in India's capital, New Delhi.
Earthquakes often rattle the region. A magnitude 7.6 quake on Oct. 8, 2005, killed about 80,000 people in northwestern Pakistan and Kashmir and left more than 3 million homeless.

Tragedy's "lesson"...Wintry Northeast...Actor David Nelson dies
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Tucson's bishop says the Arizona shooting rampage should serve as a lesson to the importance of working together despite differences. He made the comment at a Mass attended by hundreds of mourners. The church, a few blocks from the crime scene, was where 9-year-old Christina Taylor Green, one of the victim, was baptized and sang in the choir.
UNDATED (AP) — A rare snowstorm that glazed much of the South in snow and ice is expected to bring what has become regular misery in the Northeast. Forecasters say some areas could see up to a foot of snow. Airlines were forced to cancel about 1,900 flights Tuesday.
BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — Australian authorities say floodwaters are entering Brisbane, the country's third largest city, threatening 20,000 homes. Since November, at least 22 people have died in the northeastern state of Queensland.
DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani intelligence officials say U.S. unmanned aircraft fired four missiles at a house near the Afghan border, killing at least four people. The strike happened in North Waziristan, a lawless area filled with militants who often launch attacks against foreign troops in Afghanistan.

Thoughts on Verizon Wireless Getting a Verizon iPhone
My experience when searching for the best Verizon Wireless smartphone to buy
So I have decided to start looking for a new smartphone. I have had a really hard time on choosing which smartphone to go with. I have narrowed it down to either an Verizon Wireless android smartphone or a Verizon iPhone that is if Verizon gets the iPhone. So the things that I am looking for in my new phone are reliability and functionality. So with that being said lets breakdown the iPhone and the Android.
Verizon iPhone
The iPhone really made a new market for itself when it first came out. It has been a very popular phone to have and has enjoyed lots of media attention because of all of the tv shows that you see it in. In its latest version it featured an impressive front and rear facing web cam, a super high definition screen, and so many more amazing features. Okay but since this can't be a post all about the good things on the iPhone now the negatives thats easy its not on Verizon Wireless YET! One can hope that Apple will realize the benefits of moving away from AT&T being the exclusive carrier of the iPhone in the United States. Verizon CEO Lowell MacAdam took the stage in New York City to announce that in early February, customers will be able to purchase iPhone 4 devices compatible with Verizon's CDMA network. That's right: the Verion iPhone 4 is a reality.
"If the press write something long enough, eventually it comes true," MacAdam joked during the press conference.
Customers can snag a 16GB Verizon iPhone for $199, according to Verizon's preorder page. "[The Verizon iPhone 4] will be available on February 10. If you are a Verizon Wireless customer, you can reserve now," reports Gizmodo. Pre-orders will start on February 3.
Features will include Retina Display, FaceTime video calling, a 5-megapixel camera, and Apple's A4 chip. The device can also be used as a mobile hotspot, a feature that the AT&T version lacks. (Click here for our comprehensive coverage of the Verizon iPhone's features and pricing.)
Twitter exploded as news of the Verizon iPhone announcement spread quickly via tweets. Reactions range from ecstatic to disappointed to downright skeptical. Many seem concerned about Verizon's 3G network being able to handle the traffic boom that the iPhone is sure to bring. See what else tweeters have to say in our slideshow (below), then share your thoughts with us in the comments. Are you excited about the Verizon iPhone? Do you think it's overhyped? Will Android win?
